New data shows that higher temperatures do have an affect on electric vehicle batteries and their range. It's not just colder temperatures that have an affect on electric vehicle batteries, the extreme heat as an affect as well.

When it's extremely hot outside, the electric vehicle battery is using more energy to try and cool it's self down. New data has shown when it is over 95 degrees or warmer outside, electric vehicles can lose up to 20% of their range. If your vehicle electric range 100 miles, then on an extremely hot day this range will be reduced to an estimated 80 miles or range. Recurrent Auto has studied 7,500 electric vehicles; and has come to conclusion that when it is extremely hot, all electric vehicle batteries lose 15-30% of their efficiency.

Rumor has it, Hyundai and Toyota are trying to create weather proof batteries to eliminate this issue.

It is recommended that you look for an electric vehicle with a long range, such as a Tesla to help with range anxiety associated with extreme temperatures. We welcome you to view our wide selection of electric vehicles by clicking/tapping here.
